Mayor Mark Honey said Kiama Council was proud to host the 2018 awards, which recognise the talents, excellence, and significant contributions of Aboriginal people and organisations.
“I’m proud of the role of Kiama Council in acknowledging, involving and celebrating our Aboriginal community,” Clr Honey said.
“Hosting these awards is a chance to promote the achievements of our Aboriginal friends, family members and colleagues.”
This year’s event will be held at The Pavilion, Kiama on July 28.
Clr Honey said the theme of 2018 NAIDOC Week, ‘Because of Her We Can’, made this year’s awards particularly important.
“This is an great opportunity to celebrate the fundamental role Aboriginal women play in their families and community, and shine a light on their contribution to the wider community and our nation,” he said.
There are six categories of awards:
- Aboriginal Elder of the Year (male and female)
- Aboriginal Worker of the Year
- Aboriginal Young Achiever of the Year (male and female)
- Aboriginal Community Volunteer of the Year
