Consideration is being given to the formation of a new Probus Club in Jamberoo as an avenue for retired and semi-retired people to keep their minds active and expand their interests.
Probus clubs generally meet once a month for fun activities or excursions. They are social clubs and generally include both men and women. There are no fund raising activities. The regular gatherings offer an opportunity to develop new friendships and engage in new and interesting activities.
Retired or semi-retired residents of Jamberoo who are interested in new friendships and fun activities can register their interest with Mal Bracken of Kiama Rotary at mbracken37@gmail.com or by calling 4232 3828. Your name, address and contact number are required.
If there is sufficient interest in the Jamberoo area – at least 30-40 people – then a meeting will be held to discuss the establishment of a club. The setting up of a Probus club is a community service provided by Rotary. Mal is a member of Kiama Rotary and has founded a number of Probus clubs in other districts.
Please share this request with senior members of the Jamberoo Community.
KIAMA LIONS CLUB
Our club’s normal monthly fundraising activities were affected by the cancellation – due to inclement weather – of the Kiama Black Beach Markets, which were to be held on June 17.
Lions Clubs International celebrates 101 years since beginning in June 1917. It was established by US businessman Melvin Jones, who felt business leaders could use their talents to work on improving their communities. His personal code “you can’t get very far until you start doing something for somebody else”, became a guiding principle for the public-spirited Lions members, whose numbers world-wide reached a milestone of 1,000,000 by 1973 and have continued to grow.
The Lions Club of Kiama was established in 1970 and membership of men and women now total 70 who actively support local community needs, including youth. Enquiries for membership can be made by emailing kiama.nsw@lions.org.au
