NSW Beachwatch has advised people to avoid swimming in the ocean between Jones Beach and Seven Mile Beach today.

Rainfall data, updated on Tuesday at 11.15am, has been used to predict the likelihood of bacterial contamination at beaches in the Illawarra region.

The pollution warnings come after swimmers, boaters, fishers and surfers have been advised to avoid the ocean due to big swells.
