A Fire and Rescue NSW Kiama crew was called to extinguish the blaze on Saturday at 6.15am.
Firefighters doused the vehicle in foam, and were able to save the ute’s tray.
Police were on scene, and called the vehicle’s owner to inspect the damage.
“Police rang me and said, ‘we found your ute,’ I thought, ‘sweet, we can go pick it up,’” Bennett Kendall said.
“Then I zoned out a bit, I didn’t understand what they were saying.
“It was just surreal.”
Mr Kendall is thankful he had insurance, and that most of his tools were in his business partner’s car.
His insurance company has provided a rental car, until the ute is replaced.
