TAFE NSW Yallah students will be given an insight into the sustainable world of permaculture as part of a new course.
The certificate three in permaculture course will cover aspects of garden design and food production using environmentally sound techniques, often inspired by nature.
Kiama Community Garden founding member Joe Carter said he’s excited to do the course.
“This course will fill a niche and I think TAFE NSW Yallah is a great location for it,” he said.
“I specifically like the fact this course comes with a nationally-recognised accreditation.
“Also the fact that it runs over 18 months means I get to experience a year-and-a-half of seasonal changes in the gardens we’re working on.”
TAFE NSW Yallah Permaculture Teacher, Paddy Lane, is excited to be leading the first intake of students through the 18-month course.
“Permaculture is definitely an emerging industry, with its positive effect on people and less impact on the environment,” Ms Lane said.
“People are becoming more aware about where food is sourced and how it is grown.
“There is concern about the health impacts of traditional non-organic food growth methods.
“However permaculture is not just about growing food, it’s about growing community.”
