Luke Richards is no stranger to the club industry, having started with Gymea Tradies in 2006.
Mr Richards, who will eventually make a move south with his family, said he wanted the club to have a family friendly atmosphere – something he knows a thing or two about.
“I’m a family man with three kids – triplets – which is a bit different. We have two girls and a boy, and they’re just about to turn four,” he said.
“I’ve spent time down here before, I grew up on an oyster farm so this sort of area really appeals to me.
“The community vibe and lifestyle, where everyone knows everyone and everyone looks out for each other is enticing and attractive.”
On Friday, June 22, the club’s new restaurant will launch under the management of Keah’s Kitchen.
“All the food is very affordable and family friendly,” he said.
“They have a good reputation in Albion Park and we’re looking to continuing that here.
“It will be great for the club to have a function space, it’s key for us moving forward and catering for big numbers in summer.”
In addition to the renovated restaurant, two new-look kids areas will be opened in early July.
Board member Glenn Kolomeitz said it was an exciting time for the club and the broader Gerringong community.
“Recent events such as the Anzac Day ceremony and activities including live music, two-up for the adults and a playground area for the kids have proven the Gerringong Bowling and Recreation Club is fast becoming a community hub for locals and visitors of all ages,” he said.
“This is consistent with the strategic vision of the board and management – to make the club a welcoming and relaxed family-friendly venue.
“The opening of the new restaurant is one big step toward realising that vision.”
Fellow board member Cherie Burton said their main goal was to make the bowling club the heart of the community.
“Gerringong is so diverse, from aged care to our pre-schools,” she said.
“We have re-engaged our community and sporting groups, through community partnership agreements where we have an equal distribution of club grant funding, raffles and player of the match awards.
“While we see bowling as the centrepiece of the club, we also want to provide for our families by offering good food, and entertainment for the kids.
“We are so excited about our new restaurant and our new caterers, Keah’s Kitchen and believe this will be a turning point for the club.”
