As a result of Kiama Council receiving complaints of damage caused by wild rabbits at Gerringong Headland and Cemetery as well as Black Head Reserve in Gerroa, they made the decision to engage a contractor to survey and then bait these sites using carrot baits.

The baits will use the RHDV1 K5 strain of calicivirus, released in 2017.

While the release is targeting wild rabbits, owners of domestic rabbits are advised to vaccinate their pets as a precaution.

Council also recommends rabbit owners consult the Australian Veterinary Association website for additional advice regarding rabbit calicivirus at ava.com.au/rabbit-calicivirus 

Council also urges dog owners to keep their dogs on the leash when using these reserves.
