Ceili was created in 2017, to assist women from Kiama in financial need.

The colour run was held at Black Beach on Sunday.

Organiser Susan Hawley said despite Sunday’s weather deterring a few runners and walkers, it was still an incredible day. 

“I had people calling, emailing and texting from early on Saturday morning, up until 7am on Sunday morning, asking me what we would be doing if it was raining,” she said.

“I had been keeping a careful watch and was confident it was going to be fine....it did look like it was going to rain while we were still setting up. Then as though it was meant to be, at 8am the clouds broke and the sun came out. 

“I had people tag me when the rainbow was out, telling me even the weather supported the colour run.

“Then about five minutes after the last person finished, the heavens opened up and it poured with rain.”

Mrs Hawley said the feedback for the second annual event had been very positive.

“Everyone loved it,” she said. “This is the second year it has run and people are already talking about next year.”

Mrs Hawley already has plans for 2019. 

“We are now looking at introducing a bubble machine and maybe an additional colour station,” she said.

Mrs Hawley said one of the most memorable parts of the day, was when a flash mob started to perform. 

“I knew they were planning something, but they wouldn’t tell me what it was,’ she said. 

“About 10 minutes before the start of the colour run, I saw within the crowd a few arms go up, then a few more, they then came out from the crowd.

“There was about 30 of them ranging in age from five to 40 and they started a complete routine of cartwheels, jumps, getting on each others shoulders – it was amazing, to put that together was fantastic and really got everyone going.

“All the sponsors were great and embraced the day.

“We are all looking forward to next year.”
