It was the 31st consecutive edition of The Slash, touted as the region’s biggest individual surfing competition.
The Slash is hosted by Werri Beach Boardriders.
Surf conditions cleaned up as the day progressed.
The decent swell was a bonus for surfers who travelled far and wide for the event.
The left-handers were more sizable, but far less frequent, so most surfers took to the point for consistent rights.
Locals have been performing well, with a number of Gerringong and Kiama surfers making it through to semi finals.
There will be more to come, as the event continues tomorrow.
It is understood organisers are concerned conditions will not be as clean tomorrow, with larger swells forecast for Sunday.
