Kiama Jamberoo Community Music Association will play host to the musician during his Australian travels.
Vasquez has been performing as solo classical guitarist for Royal Caribbean Cruise Ltd in Tango Buenos Aires throughout the Mediterranean, Baltic and Northern Europe as well as in the Caribbean.
He recently finished his last leg of work in Sydney and played solo concerts at Wee Jasper Cave and the High Court in Canberra.
He enjoys playing in unique, intimate venues which give the audience a more personal experience.
The historic stone chapel at Jamberoo Uniting Church was built in 1879 and features restored interior stone walls, vaulted ceiling and stained glass windows. The acoustics in the space have made it ideal for a range of musical expression such as church song, instrumental performance and celebration including weddings.
“It is pleasing to see the space being used in this manner,” Jamberoo local and church representative, Geoff Boxsell said.
Most locals have heard of the creation of Jamberoo Chapel Soundspace at the Uniting Church hall at 11 Wyalla Rd, Jamberoo last year, which has become the home of the Kiama Jamberoo Community Music Association, as well as a space for locals to learn yoga, tai chi and music.
The association hosts regular musical events as well as several music groups for the community including a String orchestra, Soundscape which is a mixed mandolin, string and woodwind group, a folk group and a bluegrass group.
The director of Soundscape, Heather Powrie recently joined the association after relocating from Canberra, where amongst other things she was director of the Canberra Mandolin Orchestra.
“I was pleased and impressed to find such an active and diverse musical community here. The Association has made me feel very welcome and given me the opportunity to contribute to regional musical life,” she said.
Segundo is pleased to be given the opportunity to perform as the association’s guest artist and a portion of the proceeds from the recital will go to support the Music Association’s activities.
Doors open at 1.30pm for the concert at 2pm.
