Kiama marked the 10th anniversary of National Sorry Day on Friday, remembering the forced removal of Aboriginal children from their families.

It was a beautiful ceremony, with contribution from schools, council and Indigenous people.
Visiting Aboriginal leader Dhinawan said reconciliation events can often feel tokenistic, however, Kiama’s National Sorry Day ceremony on Friday was anything but.
“The kids here understand Indigenous issues and the emotion of the day,” Dhinawan said.
“They can speak the language, they’re far ahead of many others. I’m very impressed.
“I thought I would leave feeling teary, but I’m going home with a smile.”
Gerringong Public, Jamberoo Public, Minamurra Public, St Peter and Paul’s Kiama and Kiama High school all contributed to the ceremony, held at Kiama pavilion, starting near the old council chamber with a minute’s silence and a flag-raising ceremony.
Kiama High School dancers Charlotte Beahan, Alira Morgan, Sophie Kaye and Chloe Robbins self-choreographed and performed a beautiful Aboriginal dance on Friday.
