The Big Fat Smile community preschool hosted board member Sophie Ray who read Hickory Dickory Dash, written by Tony Wilson and illustrated by Laura Wood.
Bringing stories to life is just part of the job according Kiama Downs child care worker Kirsten Nicholls.
“There is nothing better than opening a book and bringing it to life," she said.
“They get so engrossed in a story, they all love it.
“I don’t think I’ve ever come across a child that doesn’t love a good story.”
Mrs Nicholls said they read to the kids between four to five times per day.
Kids can also read through books at their leisure under the tipi – an immensely popular activity.
“It’s beautiful having visitors and parents read to them,” she said.
National Simultaneous Storytime, now in its 18th year, is an initiative of the Australian Library and Information Association.
This annual campaign is designed to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books.
