I have holidayed in the Kiama area for more than 50 years. The beauty of this area is astounding.
I am thrilled that the historic precinct on Manning Street, Kiama has come alive. The business activity and coffee culture in this area is has become healthy and vibrant. It has been a sad and neglected area for too long.
The old Telstra exchange/depot near 30 Manning Street is a very sad sight indeed.
Weeds are thriving. This is very unsuitable in proximity with Illawarra rainforests and dangerous to families due to thorns.
Phoenix palms (these have dangerous poisonous thorns), lantana, camphor laurel trees (there is also a phoenix palm in the street garden in an adjoining building – to the left hand side of the depot).
The area near the street once included telephone boxes and bench seating. It was a ‘garden’. I realise that times change and that it is 2018.
The area is now derelict, falling down, weed infested, unsightly and a collapsing general mess.
It is an ‘eyesore’ to the beautiful historic precinct.
Please ask the owners of this property to remove the weeds and make their property safe for families and holiday makers who may be walking past.
Making this street frontage attractive would be a substantial added bonus in this historic precinct.
