We had an interesting meeting last week with Graham Packer of the Salvation Army re-iterating the need for the Red Shield appeal. Following on from Graham we had an interesting presentation by Glenn Kolomeitz on whether China presents a threat or a commercial opportunity.
Many Lions have visited the Prince of Wales Hospital to see Chris English, one of our members, who is coming out of ICU and into the Spinal Rehab Unit.
We will be at the markets this weekend and the driver reviver teams will be out over the long weekend.
Our changeover dinner is planned for June 28 and the new president's first meeting looks like being the visit by the District Governor, Peter Scifleet, who is a member of our club.
The Carers Cottage has seen most of the action outside this week with the car parking area cleared of rubble and levelled.
KIAMA ROTARY
Rotary Clubs of NSW are inviting nominations for their Inspirational Women’s Awards to recognise the achievements of women in the community.
The awards have been established to celebrate women who best exemplify Rotary’s motto of ‘Service Above Self’. There are three categories: Rural, Metro and General/volunteers with two awards in each category, one for women aged 18-30 years at the time of the award, and a second award open to women of any age.
Last year’s winner Betty Seery, 95, who after 30-years of service, continues to provide meals-on-wheels to aged and isolated people in Padstow, Revesby, Panania and Milperra, endeared herself to all of us with her ‘someone needs to do it’ approach.
The calibre of the 2017 finalists was outstanding with each demonstrating dedication and commitment to their chosen field. Most had invested in their professional development while volunteering in ways which have a positive impact on their community.
Anyone can nominate a colleague, friend, family member or community member. Nominations close 5pm on June 13. For information contact Rae-Ann Medforth at raeanne_medforth@worksight.com.au or 0411054119. Rotarians will not be considered for the award.
