The Knights won the Group Seven Rugby League match on Saturday at the Nowra Showground 36-28 with the last segment being the best.

Both teams, with the score level at 24-all with 10 minutes to go, tore into each other and the play went from end to end.

First, it was Kiama’s turn to grab the incentive and the lead when front-rower Luke Sutton, off the back of a great run from hooker Daniel Martin, barged over to score a try under the posts.

Sutton’s converted try gave the Knights 30-24 lead but the Jets were not going away.

Time and the opposition started become the home-side’s enemy but calm heads prevailed.

The Knight gifted the ball back to the Jets and when five-eighth Zac Blatner’s pin-point kick resulted in a try to centre Nathan Falzon things got interesting and the score was 30-28

Jets halfback Shane Dickinson had the chance to level the score but his conversion attempt went wide, leaving the score at 30-28.

The Jets with two minutes on the clock needed to get the ball down the other end of the field and took one risk too many.

Knights halfback Cameron Vazzoler put the game out reach when he intercepted the ball and went over to score the final try of the match, which was converted.

Both teams made their fair share of mistakes and Jets captain/coach Farrell was definitely not happy with the result.

It was not the fact his team lost, but because of the manner in which they lost that they lost.

“We made too many mistakes and gave away too many penalties. I would say we pretty much shot ourselves in the foot,” he said

He was struggling to finish positives.

“Positives - well I suppose we showed we can score points,” he said.

He expects the Jets to improve which will start with their midweek preparation.

“We will be ripping into things at training,” he said.

In the first half, the combatants swapped the lead as they both tried to gain an advantage.

The Knight held an early 8-nil lead at one stage but the Jets went into the halftime break leading 16-14.

Some of the backline duels were great to watch.

Two wingers of contrasting style Dwayne Connors (Jets) and Matt Morris (Knights) had a good battle.

The more robust Connor tried to dominate with his power, while Morris used his speed to come up with two tries.

Jets centres Ryan James and Nathan Falzon also tore into their rivals Callan Thistlewaite and Ethan Ford out-wide.

Martin, Sutton, Vazzoler and tough back-rower Cameron Whittaker played well for the Knights.

Back rowers Chase Sines and Santino Battagliolo were strong for the Jets as was Falzon,  Dickinson and front rower Jackson Oakes,  while Farrell did some damage with some strong runs and late passes.

The win gives the Knights six competition points, while the Jets stay on four.
