The ever-changing gallery, located at Bean Roasted Espresso Bar within the Sprout Hub, gives budding local artists the opportunity to showcase and sell their artworks for two months free of charge.
Lendlease communities general manager NSW/ACT, Arthur Ilias said the artist exhibition program is a perfect initiative for the Sprout Hub, providing artwork for the community to enjoy while supporting local people.
“It’s very special to share and support the talent of local Illawarra artists in our Sprout Hub,” Mr Ilias said.
The Hub is currently featuring the work of local photographer Tim Lashbrook, who has been capturing natural beauty and landscape shots close to home and further away, from Calderwood Valley to Freycinet National Park in Tasmania, for the last 12 years. Mr Lashbrook, who has recently purchased a lot at Calderwood Valley, said his passion for photography stemmed from his love of the coast and the outdoor lifestyle the Illawarra offers.
“What better place to exhibit my work than at Calderwood Valley, with its beautiful natural landscape of rolling hills, sweeping views of the Illawarra Escarpment and proximity to Johnsons Spur and Macquarie Rivulet,” Mr Lashbrook said.
To find out more about Tim’s work, a ‘meet the artist’ session will take place at the Hub on Saturday, May 18 from 10-11.30am.
All artists who live, work or study in the Shellharbour region and are interested in holding an exhibition at the Sprout Hub can contact calderwood@sprouthub.com.au.
The Sprout Hub is a small temporary, multi-use venue that is part café, part casual community space. It’s located on the corner of Escarpment Drive and Brushgrove Circuit, next to the Calderwood Valley Sales and Information Centre. Bean Roasted Espresso Bar is open from 6am to 2pm weekdays, and 7am to 3pm on weekends.
An important part of Sprout Hub is the Seedling Fund, where 10 cents from every dollar spent at Bean Roasted Espresso Bar is reinvested into a community fund. The Seedling Fund awards small grants to local grassroots initiatives and groups, and from mid-May applications will open for the next round of grant recipients.
