The Illawarra Light Rail Museum will host a special Rail and Walk Experience event to coincide with the Wings Over Illawarra air show at the nearby Illawarra Regional Airport.
Thousands are expected to attend the annual air show this Saturday and Sunday.
ILRM secretary Brad Johns is hoping to entice those people looking for a historical way to travel to the Wings Over Illawarra air show on May 5-6.
The 2018 air show will feature the return of the Illawarra Light Railway Museum Society offering historic main line train rides from their main platform.
People can ride those rusty rails and catch the historic diesel train from the main platform to the triangle terminals, and then have a short walk to the Illawarra Regional Airport for the air show.
En route to the air show visitors can see the historic railway items on display at the museum.
Mr Johns said the train rides, including main line and miniature rides as well as the train park are available from 9am to 5pm both days. Train ride fees apply.
