Chief Petty Officer Kimberley Pickering read the Prayer of Remembrance at the start of the service.
Rear Admiral Colin Lawrence AM, spoke on remembering the horrors of war and the scars that remain for the older generations, memories that younger generations haven't had to live with.
He also outlined the tactical manouvres of the Australian Navy and the fact that those who served in the wars have become the inspiration for the navy personnel of today for their sacrifice.
He spoke on the importance of remembering the terrible cost of securing our freedom and utilised anecdotal stories from those who served to bring to light the stoicism of their actions.
Treasurer of the Culburra/Orient Point RSL sub-branch Tony Weston recited a heart-rending poem.
We cherish too, the poppy red, That grows on fields where valor led, It seems to signal to the skies that the blood of heroes never dies.
Many servicepeople, community members and school children laid wreaths on the war memorial before the Ode of Remembrance was spoken and the Last Post was played.
