In a game that produced plenty of open football, highlighted by 13 tries, the Superoos always looked in control of the match, leading 16-nil and 28-10, but to the Dogs credit they hung in and closed the gap on several occasions, only to concede a try shortly afterwards.
The home side started brightly and it wasn’t a surprise when centre Jake Clarke cracked the defence in the fifth minute and scored out wide.
Dean Watling was on target with the conversion for a 6-nil lead.
Superoo fans didn’t have to wait long for one of the game’s highlights when fill-in winger Steve Bouchard showed incredible handling skills to drag in a cross-field bomb to score, and just four minutes later prop Joe Rokoqo barged over out wide and at 16-nil it looked like a very long afternoon for the visitors.
But to the Bulldogs credit they managed to rally and in the 25th minute hooker Nick Goodman spotted a narrow gap from dummy half and just three minutes later five-eighth PJ Ardler latched onto a wayward Jamberoo pass and sprinted 70 metres to score under the posts.
Tom Cook’s conversion closed the gap to just eight and the Dogs hopes were alive.
But as happened a couple of times during the game, the momentum swung sharply and a Jono Dallas grubber-kick was grounded by five-eighth Josh Kent under the posts and a mistake from the restart gave Jamberoo one last chance before the break and Dallas darted over from the scrum base and the two Watling conversions game his side a 28-10 half-time lead.
The Dogs came out after the break looking more determined and it wasn’t long before Goodman had his second and Corey Grigg replied for Jamberoo for 34-14 and an easy try to Dog’s Tom Cook got his side within 14, but that was as close as they got.
A close range effort from Luke Asquith seeming iced the points for the home side before Jack Loveday did what he likes best – going straight through the teeth of the defence and raced away for a spectacular try.
The Dogs managed to get a late consolation try to winger Dylan Carriage, but it proved to be too little, too late for the visitors.
In a classy team effort, Joe Roqoko, Jack Loveday, Matt Webster, Steve Bouchard and Luke Asquith were among the Superoos best, while Nick Goodman, PJ Ardler, Tyler Clark and Tom Cook tried hard to lift the Dogs.
