They say wedded bliss involves working together.
And that doing so provides the opportunity to create something really special.
That is exactly what a group of wedding related businesses are planning this month in and around Kiama.
Accommodation providers, venues, caterers, photographers, videographers, bridal shops, stylists, entertainment providers, beauticians, hair salons, flower and cake suppliers, celebrants and limousine services are among those charting a course to a successful marriage.
They are all working together on one day for the good of the whole Kiama economy. And they plan to celebrate every anniversary with an annual day long event for all couples interested in Kiama as a premier wedding destination.
The inaugural Kiama I Do event will be held at The Sebel Kiama, Crooked River Winery and The Pavilion Kiama on April 29 from 10am to 3pm.
Rebecca Armstrong, of Culinarius Catering, said it was something a few venies had been talking about for a few years.
“The Sebel called a meeting with The Pavilion and said “let’s do it”. Instead of being competitors they said “let us pool our resources and look at how we can make Kiama a wedding destination’,” she said.
Ms Armstrong said Destination Kiama and many other businesses quickly came on board because they knew at the end of the day a wedding at the Sebel, Pavilion or Crooked River Winery brought business to local cafes, beauticians, hairdressers, florists and accommodation providers. Early interest has been strong from people interested seeing the products and services offered by the 43 businesses taking part.
Ian Yabsley, of Clipper Limousines, gave Allana Cuzen and Yasmin O’Brien, of The Sebel Harbourside Kiama, Jacki Hall and Hope Prosser, of the Pavilion Kiama, Sophie Campbell, of Crooked River Winery, and Destination Kiama’s Karen Ronning a taste of the kind of unique experience bridal parties can experience in the seaside town. Mr Yabsley said he thought everyone working together to run such an event in Kiama was a wonderful idea. Anyone interested in attending can register on the Kiama I Do website for a passport.
