Quite a busy month in April because in addition to the Sunday Market, we have Driver Reviver over the Anzac and school holidays, a BBQ for the opening of the new Bunnings at Oak Flats, and probably collecting at the Anzac Morning parade (subject to confirmation).
This week at our dinner meeting we will be briefed on the Salvation Army's annual appeal in which we participate by doing a street wide collection similar to that of the Red Cross of last month.
Recently a number of Lions undertook some renovations to an unused section of the Scout Hall. This room has now been called the Lions Den and John Unwin, our oldest member, has done a wood carving for the door.
The Carers cottage has now got almost all the interior walls and ceilings fitted with insulation. The next step will be to fit the gyprock. Externally we are now turning our attention to the driveway and parking area to the rear. This will need levelling and preparation using specialist machinery.
Our next dinner meeting on the 26th will be a Happy Hour at the Surf Club.
KIAMA ROTARY
Rotary invites you attend a premiere of the highly acclaimed film Breath, based on Tim Winton's novel about surf, our culture and coming of age, at the Roxy Theatre in Nowra, on Thursday, May 3, starting at 7pm for refreshments. Screening at 7.45pm.
This private screening is a fund-raiser for a project in Kenya to support a team of nurses to provide basic health care to Kenyans. There is no public health available in poorer areas of Kenya. The funds raised will assist to cover nursing and medical costs for procedures that require hospital care when an Australian team visits in August.
The Breath premiere event is being organised by Kate Thomas who recently joined Kiama Rotary. She is working with the Rotary Kenya Health team in conjunction with Mt Warning Rotary Club. Tickets are $20 and cover refreshments on arrival and the screening.
If you would like to join us on the night or support the project by donation, contact Kate on 0418 648102 or book through trybooking.com.
