On Saturday, Michael Pool was walking his dog on the Burrill Lake sand flats, south of Ulladulla, when he found a “monster” flathead that had suffocated itself.
“He took on too big of a bream,” Mr Pool said.
Mr Pool said he thought the flathead must have tried to swallow the bream a few hours earlier as the two fish seemed fresh.
He estimated the flathead to weigh about 20 pounds (9kg) and the bream to be about 45cm.
The fisherman said he had seen the same flathead before while fishing from his kayak near that spot on the lake.
“Just a freak of nature.”
Crabs and birds had started to dig in to the free feed by Sunday, Pool reported.
