The first round will be played in a blockbuster double header at Campbelltown Stadium on May 5 against the Western Rams with the Dragons under 23s being coached by Wade Forrester and Australian International and Stingrays WLT coach John Simon, coaching the Dragons WLT side.
Greater Southern regional manager Kevin Felgate is enthusiastic for the upcoming Championships.
“By re-naming of the franchise to reflect our pathways development with the St George Illawarra Dragons, I give our squads a fair chance of reaching the finals,” Felgate said.
“Last year our women’s league tag side made the final with our 23s being knocked out in the semi-finals by Monaro, who took out the title.
‘With limited preparation time and taking into consideration local club commitments, a modified training schedule has been introduced.
“For us to give the coaching staff the maximum time with the players, we expect nominated players to be available for all training sessions and games.”
Simon’s side, made entirely of Group Seven products, will be headlined by Milton-Ulladulla quartet Cheyanne Hatch, Caitlin Partridge, Tanika O'Brien and Ebony Murray.
These four will be joined in the squad by Jamberoo’s Brooke Smith, Carly Ryan, Kaela Thomas and Aimee Barnard, Shellharbour duo Georgia Thomas and Emily Prouten, Stingrays’ Caitlin O’Neill, Shaylah Kutia, Allira Simon and Bronte Girdler, Berry-Shoalhaven Heads’ Bree Ford, Kiama’s Courtney Sullivan and Nowra-Bomaderry’s Talia Atfield.
In the under 23 men’s side, Group Seven will be represented by Jamberoo’s Corey Grigg and Luke Asquith, Shellharbour’s Jack Kavanagh, Milton-Ulladulla’s Tyler Clark, Gerringong’s Tyran Wishart, Kiama’s Cameron Cornell and Nowra-Bomaderry’s Jake Gould.
These players will be joined by Illawarra’s Kurt Field (Western Suburbs), Leigh Higgins (Thirroul), Zac Greene (Western Suburbs), Josh Daley (Western Suburbs), Liam Cassidy (Collegians), Tom Simpson (Thirroul), Nathan Leatigaga (Western Suburbs), Tom Bailey (Collegians), Luke Chalker (Collegians), Stuart Mason (Dapto) and Tony Pellow (Western Suburbs) in the squad.
Training will commence on April 18 at Ron Costello Oval, Shellharbour.
