Margaret Crothers from the local branch of the Seniors Rights Service, which is a community legal centre that protects the rights of older people, shared her experience with the Rotary Club of Kiama. Senior Rights Service provides telephone advice, advocacy, legal advice and educational services. Margaret explained the various services offered using anonymous scenarios to illustrate the needs of many seniors. She outlined a wide range of legal assistance available to support seniors: from those who are being neglected to those who are being taken advantage of, sometimes by people in their own family, and especially in regard to finances.
On Monday 9th April we will hear from recent participants in the Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment (RYPEN). This conference, a weekend long camp for students between 15 and 17 is designed to develop young people’s potential through a mixture of lecture style sessions and adventure-based learning.
Kiama Rotary Club meets at the Kiama Leagues Club on Monday at 6.30pm for 7pm and welcomes visitors. If you would like to join us for our dinner meeting contact John Kenny on 0434 989 253.
KIAMA LIONS
This past week we have still been coming to terms with the tragedy that has overtaken our President elect for the next Lions year. No doubt we will want to do some serious fundraising to support the family.
Our Driver Reviver teams report that they had a very successful Easter weekend with more people than ever taking advantage of our services and many of these are repeat customers who enjoy the chance of a break, drink and chat. We will be putting the van back out at Dunmore for the Anzac holidays.
This month our intrepid Outward Bound participants will set out on their adventure in the mountains south of Canberra. We look forward to hearing about their exploits on their return.
The scaffolding is finally down on the Carers Cottage and the building looks good. It will look even better when the front deck goes on and covers the old brick foundations. This week we thank Bunnings at Shellharbour who donated lots of insulation which we will install this week.
