Two teams from the club will represent Australia at the Acrobatics Gymnastics World Championships, with the junior team of Mykenna Collier, Jemima Clarke and Mikayla Carr set to commence their campaign on Wednesday.
The senior team of Lauren Farquhar, Taylah Doosey and Maja Moore will take to the floor for the competition next Friday, where they will hope to match it with the might of the European powers.
The team’s World Championships campaign was almost derailed when Doosey suffered a stress fracture in her arm in November. Doosey was forced to spend six weeks in a cast and the team missed the final selection trial.
“It was a very scary moment,” Doosey said. “We had to leave it up to the selection team if they were going to put us on the team because we had to miss the final trial. It was a very nervous time.”
The trio’s coach Shelby Lacey is confident they have fully overcome Doosey’s injury and is looking forward to seeing the women at their best.
“They’ve done really well to get here,” Lacey said. “They had to have a good chunk of training missed, which made it quite hard to get back to standard. They’ve worked super hard to get there and now they’re back to peak fitness in time for World Championships.”
