During this week’s dinner meeting we will hear from Jay Devereaux the CEO of Veterans 360, the charity supporting homeless veterans.
We will be turning our attention to what we can do for the good folks of Tarthra through their local Lions Clubs. We have now finalised our Lions Board and office holders for next year. They will be taking over in June/July.
After lots of effort by many Lions, the Carers Cottage has now been painted and looks much cleaner. The interior plumbing has been roughed out thanks to City & Coast plumbing. We are grateful to Chris Marshall of CLM Interior Fixings who also installed furring channels throughout all the ceilings so that they are perfectly level everywhere.
This also makes it very much easier to fit the gyprock. The next phase will be to install Insulation in all the walls and removing the scaffolding. Once the walls are insulated we will be fitting the gyprock so things are moving on apace.
KIAMA ROTARY
Work continues with decommissioning the old Kiama Hospital kitchen. The equipment will be repurposed and stored at the club shed over the coming weeks prior to shipping to Madang, Papua New Guinea later this year.
Past Kiama Rotary President, Trevor Phillis and Mike Thomas representing Gerringong Rotary will visit Madang during April to conduct the final planning mission. They will also confirm design and engineering specifications and investigate availability of local materials and resources to assist with installation.
Both Trevor and Mike have worked with Rotary in PNG on previous occasions and most recently assisted with the renovation of the Madang Scout/Community Hall.
Kiama Rotary has a longstanding “sister-club” relationship with the Rotary Club of Madang dating back over 30 years.
There is still time to submit nominations for the 2018 Rotary NSW & ACT Emergency Services Community Awards. Fellow Service Members and the general public are encouraged to submit nominations via the Awards website: www.RotaryESCawards.org.au. Nominations close on March 28.
