Fitzgibbons was no match for Australia’s Keely Andrew in the second semi-final, only managing three waves for the entire heat – with the top two scoring 3.00 and 3.77.
Her total of 6.77 was not enough to defeat Andrew, who scored 2.00 and 5.50, for a total of 7.50.
Andrew would go on to lose the final to United States’ Lakey Peterson.
The result leaves Fitzgibbons in equal third, with Hawaii’s Malia Manuel on the women’s CT leaderboard – with Culburra Beach’s two-time reigning world champion Tyler Wright sitting in equal fifth.
In terms of the men’s rankings, Tyler’s brothers Owen and Mikey are equal fifth and equal ninth respectively.
All four will return to the water for the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach, which runs from March 28 to April 8.
