Directed by Jack Yabsley, written by Pearson, musically directed by Mark Chamberlain, and starring Emma Deans, Meat Loaf: In The Raw, is a chance to get cozy with the musical front man who once starred as the bus driver in Spice World: The Movie.
“Initially, I was inspired by Meat Loaf from a comic perspective, as that is my background, because I thought it could be funny to play a male musician named after a sloppy main course, particularly being a woman,” Pearson said.
“One of the things I love most about him, is that he has defied all odds, he doesn't look like a rockstar, he's a fat guy in a tuxedo, yet his larger than life voice and personality inspired the fifth best selling album of all time – Bat out of Hell – he feels like one of us.”
Pearson said fans will get the chance to hear tales from his rock ‘n’ roll life, and revisit his classic bangers Bat out of Hell, Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad, and of course, I Would Do Anything for Love.
“The audience can expect to hear some mind blowing vocals, especially from Emma Deans, who was born and raised in Kiama,” she said.
“The show is also dramatic, funny, interesting and quirky – it's an intimate rock concert.”
Growing up, Pearson attended Kiama High School and the Roo Theatre in Shellharbour, where she performed in a number of shows.
“Nick Higgins was a role model for me there, definitely, and is still a good friend and mentor,” she said.
“Terry Wild at Kiama High School gave us so many opportunities, we sang at the Opera House, the Entertainment Centre, for Bonita Mabo, and was the best teacher I have ever had.”
