A 60-year-old man is being treated for suspected spinal injuries after being knocked over by a wave and hitting his head on a sand bar at Werri Beach near Gerringong on Saturday morning.

The patient was pulled from the water after 11am on Saturday and initially treated by lifeguards who called an ambulance.
He has since been transported to hospital by NSW Ambulance where he is receiving ongoing treatment.
