The annual event which included 10 workshops was held at Nazareth Catholic Primary School in Shellharbour on Friday.
Students from fellow Southern Illawarra Catholic Schools (SICS), Stella Maris in Shellharbour, St Paul’s in Albion Park and SS Peter & Paul In Kiama took part.
Event organiser and SS Peter & Paul principal Jacqueline Lee said the Leaders Day was purposely held on the last day of Catholic Schools Week.
“We have spent a week celebrating all that is good about catholic schools and what we have to offer, by joining together as a cluster of schools to work on leadership skills,” she said.
“In particular this year we are having a focus on well-being and the fact that we need to be well physically, spiritually and mentally in order to be a good leader.”
Mental health ambassador and former St George Illawarra player Dan Hunt told students to always ask for help if they needed assistance.
“Mental health is something that can go under the radar. That’s why we wanted to be very explicit and talk about it today,” Miss Lee said.
“It is something we saw as being not only relevant for our communities as a whole but something that is necessary for us to address very specifically with our students.
“Catholic schools take well-being very seriously and it does fit very nicely with our strong emphasis on pastoral care. Today just re-emphasises that importance as these young people develop into young adults and then citizens of our future.”
