Three outstanding young Kiama citizens presented reports to the club last week regarding their experiences at recent residential leadership and career planning courses supported by Kiama Rotary.
University of Wollongong student (and 2018 Kiama Young Citizen of the Year winner) Sarah Young spoke of her life-changing experience at the recent Rotary Youth Leadership Award course held at Yarramundi. RYLA is a week-long residential personal development program for young people aged 19 to 25, which focuses on self-confidence, leadership and community.
Nathan Cowgill and Kieren Pollard from Kiama High School enthusiastically discussed their experiences at the recent Honeywell Engineering Summer School in Sydney. At HESS, students gain a better understanding of engineering as university and career options as well as experiencing the interaction with practising engineers and their peers.
There is still time to submit nominations for the 2018 Rotary NSW & ACT Emergency Services Community Awards. Fellow Service Members and the general public are encouraged to submit nominations via the Awards website: www.RotaryESCawards.org.au.
KIAMA LIONS
Last weekend our team led by Lion Harvey Diener took part in the Clean-up Australia campaign. Our area has traditionally been Blowhole Point. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the many tourists had not left too much unwanted rubbish.
This month our teams are splitting into small groups and doing the doorknock across the whole of Kiama for the Red Cross Calling campaign.
This week’s meeting will be at the Leagues Club and our Guest Speaker will be local computer expert "Fat Albert" who will be advising on the ways to avoid scams on your computer among other matters.
Our Carers cottage work continues with the Cypress pine floor going down and walls being prepared for painting. We are particularly grateful to Bunnings at Shellharbour who are providing all the paint.
We hope you will come to our play at the Uniting Church Hall on March 14-16; funds raised go to the Carers Cottage.
