Well the new roof on the Carers cottage is drawing lots of admiration, it does look good and is a sign that we are at last making progress. Those looking closely will see various patches of colour around the front. These are samples while we see just what the best colour for painting the outside will be. We hope to start that next week.
A group of Lions provided the BBQ for the Undie Run last week, by all accounts it was a lot of fun and was for a great cause. This week’s meeting will another of our Happy Hours with fish and chip supper. It will be held at the home of one of our members.
On Sunday, March 4, we will have a team doing our area for the Clean Up Australia annual event as well as teams going door to door for Red Cross Calling.
In order to raise funds for the Carers Cottage, some Kiama “thespians" have formed a group called the Kiama Matinee Theatre and are putting on a small comedy called "Murder Upstairs Downstairs at Upton Priory". It was written by Ken Methold and the cast contains some Lions. Please come, tickets are available at the Book Nook in Centrepoint Arcade.
Last week, Rotarian Carole Johnston presented a new Surf Board to the Kiama Surf Life Saving Club Nippers on behalf of Kiama Rotary. Carole received the Robert East Community Award from Kiama Municipal Council in late 2017 and chose to donate the monetary award to the Rotary Club of Kiama with the stipulation it be re-invested in the local community. This donation continues Rotary’s support of the Nippers; last year Kiama Rotary donated a new marquee to the Nippers.
There is still time for the public to submit nominations for the 2018 Rotary NSW & ACT Emergency Services Community Awards. RESCA originated in the Illawarra in 2011, then grew to become state-wide and now this year, is expanding into a national award.
Nominees must be appointed as paid or unpaid (volunteer) members of one of the official NSW or ACT Service Agencies who perform Community Service above and beyond the call of their normal duties.
Fellow service members and the general public are encouraged to submit nominations via the Awards website: www.RotaryESCawards.org.au. Nominations close March 28.
