Now that Gerringong Museum’s collection is stored away in preparation for the construction of the new purpose built museum, library and community centre, the members of the historical society have been looking for somewhere to hold meetings for the next year or so.

To their delight, Gerringong’s RSL Sub-Branch offered the RSL Memorial Hall for their use.
Members of the two groups met recently to confirm arrangements.
“The Sub-Branch has been a big part of Gerringong’s history, both in bricks and mortar and in flesh and blood, so the nexus with the historical society was an obvious solution,” president of Gerringong RSL Glenn Kolomeitz said.
“It was fantastic to welcome the Gerringong and District Historical Society to our premises in the interest of the wider community.”
Historical society president Helen McDermott said their members were grateful for the offer.
“The historical society has found itself homeless while the exciting building project for the new library and museum is in progress,” she said.
“Members are most grateful that the Gerringong RSL Sub-Branch has extended a hand of welcome to their lovely premises, so the historical society could continue its activities.”
Gerringong Historical Society meetings will be held at the RSL Memorial Hall at 1pm on the fourth Saturday of the month until further notice.
The first meeting is on February 24, when Tony Butz will give a talk on Governors King and Bligh, and how their decisions influenced exploration and settlement of the area.
Tony’s previous talks have been extremely interesting, and can be recommended for anyone with a desire to know more about Australian history.
The RSL premises are on the corner of Fern and Belinda Streets, Gerringong, diagonally opposite School Park. There will be a small charge for visitors, who are welcome to stay for afternoon tea and will be followed by a general meeting for GDHS members.
