The market will stay open until 7pm to show the Hull FC team what a good Aussie BBQ is all about, complete with Wagyu sausages and burgers from Schottlanders Wagyu Farm in Gerringong.
“We've also got the "Illawarra Prawn Peeling Champion" Peter Feutrill coming along to challenge the boys to a prawn peeling competition,” market manager Tricia Ashelford said.
“Lots also planned for the kids with a "milk chugging" competition using creamy super fresh milk from The Pines Kiama, a gumboot throwing competition and jumping castle.”
Musician Kevin Sullivan will be belting out the tunes and getting the party vibe happening at Coronation Park on the day.
“Plus we've got a cake to cut and share with our loyal market shoppers and a few bottles of Simall Wines sparkling to share around,” Mrs Ashelford said.
The Hull FC players will be joined by Dragons players to show the local kids a few rugby league skills.
From the perspective of the market committee, over the past four years the market has enjoyed tremendous support from the local community.
“It's been a privilege to become an integral part of people's weekly shopping experience,” Mrs Ashelford said.
“We are so proud that we are more than a market and take immense pride that the weekly Wednesday afternoon market is a hub for families, friends, neighbours and the community in general.”
Mrs Ashelford said the market community of shoppers and stallholders had experienced births, deaths and marriages over the four years together.
“Every week still brings smiles and enjoyment to us – regardless of the weather,” she said.
“In the past year the market has gone "plastic bag and polystyrene free" thanks to the Kiama Boomerang Bags team of volunteers and their boundless energy to make "Borrow and Bring Back" shopping bags from recycled fabric.
“Of course we can't forget our stallholders – many have been coming to the market since day one. All continue to be passionate about providing beautiful produce and artisan products each week and without this wonderful bunch of farmers and makers the market wouldn't continue to thrive.”
