The body of work celebrates all aspects of life and challenges beliefs around happiness as an ultimate goal.

All artworks are made from found objects and recycled materials, and each are accompanied by a poem.

“In western society happiness is a highly valued emotional state, and we are surrounded by positive quotes and motivational sayings,” Gitte explained.

“Happiness is not a bad thing, however, problems arise when we come to believe we should always feel this way.

“This exhibition takes a stand against the focus on happiness as a goal and celebrates all aspects of life. Through assemblage and mixed media artworks, I have explored the nuances of life with kindness, humour and a bit of attitude.” 

The grand opening will be held on Saturday, February 3, from 12pm – 2pm, where ArtsHub visual arts editor Gina Fairley will officially launch the exhibition.

Gitte is offering a free artist floor talk on Tuesday, February 6 at 5.30pm and also a workshop on Saturday, February 24 from 10am –  1pm, at a cost of $50 per person. Bookings can be made at www.southcoasttickets.com.au or by contacting 4429 5444.
