Kiama MP Gareth Ward has joined with players from the Kiama Knights Junior Rugby League Football Club to promote the NSW Government’s Active Kids $100 sporting rebate, which starts on January 31.
Mr Ward met with the club president Carl Middleton, committee member Kristine Laird and a number of junior players from the Kiama Knights JRLFC to discuss the rebate.
“Our local parents can claim a $100 voucher for their school-enrolled children thanks to the NSW Government’s new Active Kids program,” he said.
“Through the program, parents, carers and guardians across NSW will be able to claim a $100 voucher to put towards the registration and participation costs of sport and active recreation activities for their kids.
“With household budgets continually stretched, we want to ensure every child has access to sports and active participation for their health and wellbeing.”
From January 31, parents, guardians and carers of children participating in sport and other approved physical activities in NSW, can apply for the voucher online through their MyServiceNSW account, and then redeem the voucher at their local sporting club or approved provider.
“Whether your child participates in summer or winter sports or activities, Active Kids vouchers can be used until December 31, so there is no rush to claim,” Mr Ward said.
“We want every child to be able to use their voucher, so we encourage parents to speak to their local sporting club about registering to be an approved provider.”
Club president Mr Middleton said registrations for the 2018 season were now open.
“We are a family friendly club that provides an opportunity for boys and girls to play junior rugby league or league tag and our focus is on getting children participating, learning new skills, working as a team, exercising and having fun,” he said.
“Thanks to the Active Kids rebate, all school-aged children can register with the Kiama Junior Knights and play the 2018 season for free – saving $100 in registration fees.”
In 2018, the club is hoping to field teams in:
- Junior Rugby League – Under 6s to Under 16s (girls can play rugby league up to end of Under 12s).
- Girls League Tag – Under 10s, Under 12s, Under 14s and Under 16s.
