Road safety officer Janelle Burns reminded drivers to slow down around school zones.
“It is important to remember children are unpredictable so motorists need to take care and slowdown around our schools,” Ms Burns said.
“The speed limit around most schools is 40km per hour between 8am and 9.30am, and then 2.30pm to 4pm.”
“Drivers can easily tell when they are entering a school zone. There are prominent signs and road markings, while many have flashing lights.”
Ms Burns said speeding and other driving offences committed in school zones attract heavier penalties.
“You need to stay below the legal speed limit. This not only ensures the safety of the kids but also avoids you potentially losing your driver’s licence,” she said.
