Albion Park Show society secretary Marilyn Connelly said their big water tanker was needed to help the multiple Rural Fire Service crews and aircraft responding to the blazes, burning in the park along Sir Bertram Stevens Drive.
But the good news for show organisers was that the demolition derby and fireworks display went ahead as planned.
“We were glad the fireworks weren’t cancelled. It’s always popular on the Saturday night,” she said.
“The animal nursery and free entertainment earlier on Saturday was very popular.
“Obviously not having our water tanker didn’t help. It also didn’t help that some people thought we had cancelled the show. But it’s during the night when our numbers really pick up.”
Rebecca Quinn was the Albion Park Showgirl Competition winner, while Kiara Debas from Albion Park won the Tiny Tots (3-5 years) competition ahead of Amelia Wilson (Jamberoo) and Jennifer Herbert (Koonawarra).
The Junior Princess (6-10 years) crown went to Tullimbar youngster Emily Day.
Albion Park pair Elizabeth Suartara and Charlotte Hooper finished second and third respectively.
