KIAMA ROTARY
The combined Rotary Clubs of Kiama and Gerringong held another successful Melanoma screening clinic at Kiama Surf Life Saving Club last Sunday. Three doctors attended, 89 attendees were screened, with 13 people being referred for further review. This takes the total screenings at our past three clinics to 185, with 49 being referred for further examination (26.5 per cent). Our thanks go to the doctors who gave of their time; Kiama Surf Life Saving Club, members of both Rotary clubs and to the sponsors who support the project.

Congratulations go to Kiama Rotarian and Paul Harris Fellow, Noel Edgell, on being awarded Kiama Municipality’s prestigious Australia Day Senior Citizen of the Year Award for 2018. Noel is a stalwart of the club and gives much of his time in support of the local community and international humanitarian projects. Two recent projects where Noel has been heavily involved are the restoration of Saddleback Mountain Southern Lookout and ongoing support of the Club’s work in Papua New Guinea. Noel is also a previous recipient of Kiama Rotary’s Club Member of the Year Award; a wonderful example of living Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self”.
KIAMA LIONS
For a number of years now it has been the tradition that the first dinner meeting of the year be held at Kiama Rugby Club. This year was no exception and a large contingent of members and their partners had a very enjoyable evening and caught up with the news after the holidays.
Now we turn our attention to the Kiama Show on Friday and Saturday. It is always a busy time for us and this year we will be trying out our Lion Burgers as well as our delicious egg/bacon rolls and snags. The whole club gets involved in this event because we also provide gate guards as well. We will be crossing our fingers for good weather and lots of happy folks.
Our Cottage project has now taken a further step forward with Timms Roofing starting work on replacing the roof. We will also take advantage of this by inserting skylights and light tunnels at the same time.
