Kiama Lions has been invited by the Council to run a barbecue on Monday, February 5, for the Commonwealth Games Baton Relay as it passes through Kiama. Many of our members have been reminded of a similar one we did for the Sydney Olympics in 2000.
Last month at the Kiama Public School presentation day, Kiama Lions were recognised for the efforts in fund-raising for them over the previous year. We helped with two barbecues and took part in a fund-raising dinner at the Kai restaurant.
Our Carers Cottage renovation will enter a new stage during the next couple of weeks. Thanks to Timms Roofing we will be getting a new roof. To do this the scaffolding had to be raised up a level. This has already been done and our sincere thanks to Gordon Gregory of the Gregory Scaffolding company who has been extremely generous with labour and equipment. Once the roof is complete there will some guttering and facias etc to be fixed and skylights installed, then we can paint! In the mean time we hope to start on the internal electrical installations shortly.
KIAMA ROTARY
Our thanks go out to Kiama Surf Life Saving Club, local doctors and other supporters who helped with Kiama Rotary’s free skin cancer screening clinic on Sunday, January 14. Melanoma is the fourth most common cancer diagnosed in Australia.
Kiama Rotary will host its 27th Antiques and Retro Fair on the weekend of January 20-21, at Kiama Leisure Centre. This annual event will see dealers from around the state present a wide variety of antiques and retro items for sale including jewellery, furniture, china, and collectables.
The Fair is the club’s largest single fund-raiser of the year and has become a fixture on Kiama’s event calendar for locals and visitors alike. Funds raised help support important Rotary projects such as polio eradication, international humanitarian aid and various local youth programs.
Doors will be open from 9.30am to 5pm on Saturday, January 20, and from 10:30am to 3pm on Sunday, January 21. Entry is a donation of $10 for adults, $7 for concessions while children under the age of 16 are free. Contact John Worstencroft on 0419 002 655 for more information.
