The rally will involve approximately 80 to 90 classic, veteran and vintage motorcycles encompassing years from the very early days until the present, with riders coming from both the local area and further afield including Sydney, Goulburn, Griffith, Wagga, Shoalhaven and the Eurobodalla.
The Illawarra Classic Motorcycle Club was formed by a group of old motorbike enthusiasts in March 1995 with the aim of collectively supporting the restoration, preservation and use of veteran, vintage, classic and enthusiast motorcycles form the very earliest days of transport to the modern high performance exotic machines.
The highlight of the run calendar is the annual Motorcycle Red Scarf Rally.
“Motorbike marques expected to participate include the traditional English brands of Matchless, BSA, Triumph, AJS as well as the European Ducati’s and the Japanese representatives of Honda, Kawasaki and Suzuki as well as many others,” Illawarra Classic Motorcycle Club member Peter Grimston said.
The bikes will be on display at Black Beach on Saturday, March 10 and Sunday, March 11 from 8.30am to 10am prior to leaving for runs to Berry via Kangaroo Valley. On return at approximately 2pm they will once again be on display.
“The Red Scarf Rally provides an ideal opportunity to see rare and restored solo motorbikes, outfits (motorbikes with sidecars) and meet fellow riders and motorcycle enthusiasts,” Mr Grimston said.
Kiama Mayor Mark Honey will attend the opening of the Motorcycle Red Scarf Rally on March 10 and will officially open the event at 10am.
