KIAMA ROTARY

Kiama Rotarians welcomed in the New Year by operating another successful fund-raising barbeque at the Fireworks and Laser Light Show held at Kiama Harbour on New Year’s Eve. We wish all our friends and supporters a very Happy New Year.

After a brief break between Christmas and New Year, members are now ready for a very busy January. Building on the success of the Kiama Car Spectacular that was held in November, Kiama and Gerringong Rotary Clubs will provide another free skin cancer screening clinic on Sunday, January 14, at Kiama Surf Life Saving Club between 11am and 3pm.

Funds raised through Rotary’s annual Kiama Car Spectacular allow the clubs to fund important Melanoma Research and to provide free skin care clinics throughout the year. GPs from Gerringong and Kiama are volunteering their time to help identify people at risk of Melanoma.  If they find something that requires further investigation, a referral will be provided to the doctor of choice for follow up.

Now is the time to mark your diaries for Kiama Rotary’s Antiques and Retro Fair to be held on Saturday, January 20, and Sunday, January 21, at Kiama Leisure Centre.

KIAMA LIONS

This holiday period has been especially busy for our Driver Reviver teams. We were fortunate enough to obtain sponsorship from Arnotts biscuits. They also did a TV + radio advertising campaign which raised public awareness and as a result we had many folks stop and say hi; we heard about you on the radio etc..  For us it meant a lot more folks stopping and having a break on their journey and we had lots of interesting conversations with travellers from in and out of state and many European tourists.

During December a group of Lions helped in the renovation and restoration of a large room within the Kiama Scouts complex.  The Club had earlier made a donation towards the cost of the works. The Scouts are so pleased with our efforts that the room is going to be called "The Lions Den".

Our next meeting will be a relaxed affair at the Rugby Club but we will have to do some planning for the Kiama Show. On behalf of Kiama Lions we wish readers a very Happy New Year.
