The state government has granted the group a further $250,000, taking their total funding of the project to $500,000.
“I know this community has been working really hard and the council should be commended for the investment they are making in one of the most popular services any council runs and that’s museums and libraries,” Mr Ward said.
“We’ve already given them a cheque for $250,000 and now I’m really pleased to announce that from the Regional Growth Fund the NSW government will make a further contribution of $250,000 towards this project.”
Mr Ward said he was committed to seeing Gerringong get the resources and support it needed.
“I know the volunteers here do an absolutely tremendous job of preserving some of the most extraordinary parts of history that have occurred in this town and I want them to have the best facilities, so they can tell those stories for years to come,” he said.
Mrs McDermott commended those who had volunteered their time to the project.
“We have the most wonderfully committed group of local people who are so passionate about this museum,” she said.
“We’ve put in with members and volunteers about 100 working days, we’ve packed and wrapped and everything is safely stored waiting for its next move.
“Now we start to dream about how it will look when the new centre opens, the community is very excited about this, there’s been great involvement and the funding will be a wonderful bonus.”
