Our Christmas party was a fantastic success with great music and wonderful food in perfect weather conditions. Thanks to Johnny Spitz, Olive and Vine and KSLC.
An ex Kiama resident who moved to Queensland, goes regularly to South Africa to take supplies to an AIDS orphanage and school. She took a container this year and among the items to distribute she had 1600 pairs of unwanted spectacles donated by Lions Clubs. These will make such a difference to those less fortunate with vision problems and they were very grateful.
We have decided to renew the roof of the Carers Cottage. The current tiles are OK, but barely adequate, and as we have to replace the facias and all the gutters, we have decided to just replace the whole lot with a metal roof. It will be easier to fit our Velux skylights and solar panels. This week we have an open house and BBQ for all the Lions from the various clubs who have contributed so far.
This will be the last contribution before Christmas so, on behalf of all the local Lions may we wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a healthy and happy 2018.
KIAMA ROTARY
Club members, family and friends enjoyed a fun Christmas party at Kiama Downs Surf Club last week. A past Rotary exchange student from Germany also joined our celebrations.
At this time of the year especially, our thoughts are directed towards peace and goodwill. Rotary has a long history of supporting world peace. Seventy years ago, Rotary was involved with the foundation of the United Nations.
Today, Rotary is better placed than ever to have a real and lasting impact for peace: through our peace focused programs such as Rotary Peace Fellows and through every area of our service.
In 2018, Rotary will host a series of peacebuilding conferences around the world and several Kiama Rotarians are scheduled to attend the Australian conference in Sydney.
We wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We look forward to seeing you at our fund-raising barbeques and Antiques Fair in January. We thank you for your generous support throughout the year.
