There were some huge shocks on the opening day with Dylan Riley from Tuncurry taking out Australian superstar Aron Sherrif in a 31 – 30 thriller.
Two-time state champion Matt Pieterson also bowed out early with a 31 – 22 loss to Inverell star Scott Hamilton.
Local hope Dylan Skinner defeated Ballina's Kris Lehtfeldt in the opening round before bowing out to Cowra star Gerrard Beath 31 – 29 in the quarter-finals.
Friday was finals day with Beath succumbing to giant killer Dylan Riley 31 – 29.
The 2017 Australian indoor champion and former Albion Park bowls coordinator David Ferguson accounted for Scott Hamilton in the semi-final before defeating Riley 31 – 29 in a classic final.
Riley and Ferguson both lead the final and had chances to run away with it and at 29 – 29, Ferguson was down game and played a running shot to score two and win the title.
Ferguson now qualifies for the National Champion of Champion Singles in 2018.
The event was a huge success for Kiama Bowling Club, with the club now looking towards hosting the NSW State Pennant Finals in August 2018.
