Eames, now retired and living in Gerringong, joined Qantas as Chief Press Officer in the 1970s, becoming Director of Public Affairs until the 1990s.
“The Flying Kangaroo” recounts many of the untold stories of the airline, many of which never made it into print, including the time they had to smuggle Princess Diana out of Australia without the media knowing, when she was about to announce her engagement to Prince Charles.
Prior to his time at Qantas, Eames worked in Papua New Guinea as a journalist, and returned to Canberra to be Press Secretary to the Minister for Civil Aviation in the Gorton Government and Aviation Adviser to the Minister for Transport in the Whitlam Govt.
In retirement he has written seven books, and his eighth, to be published later this year is about Qantas during WWII.
Eames is an entertaining speaker, and visitors are most welcome to attend the talk at Gerringong Museum on Blackwood Street.
The talk will be followed by afternoon tea, and then a general meeting of the Gerringong and District Historical Society.
The museum will close at the end of October, prior to exhibits being packed up ready for the building of a new Community Centre on the site, incorporating both the museum and library.
Farewell events will be held on Wednesday, October 11 at 5.30 pm and Sunday, October 15 at 3pm in the museum.
