The comments are in response to Councillor Matt Brown’s concerns the ongoing upkeep of the $4.5 million state funded project had not been budgeted for.
“Kiama Council is currently in the community consultation phase of the Minnamurra Boardwalk project, to gauge support for the various design options,” general manager Michael Forsyth said.
“Once council has a finalised design, which will determine the construction method and materials to be used, an estimate of maintenance and renewal costs can be made.”
Mr Forsyth has urged people to get involved in the planning of the project.
“Council strongly encourages residents to familiarise themselves with the various designs, which are available via council’s website and from the administration centre in Manning Street,” he said.
Cr Brown described the state government’s actions as “nothing short of reckless, irresponsible and rude”.
“I asked the question at a council meeting if the government had consulted council as to whether it had budgeted for the project,” he said.
“The general manager said ‘I’ll answer that and the answer is no’.”
