The Federal Government has provided $1.25 million towards the Gerringong Museum and Library.
Federal Member for Regional Development Fiona Nash visited Gerringong Historical Society on Monday to deliver the funding.
“I was delighted to be able to announce this with Ann [Sudmalis] today,” she said.
“We know how important it is to invest in our regions, when we invest in the regions it gives those communities confidence.”
“Our kids and grandchildren we want to stay or come back to these communities need strong thriving communities to come back to.”
The brand new community facility on Blackwood Street in Gerringong will feature a purpose built art gallery, display cabinetry, performance stage, meeting room, library, storerooms, kitchen, office space, terrace, courtyard and car park.
Kiama Mayor Mark Honey said the Gerringong community had advocated for the project.
“This is a project that has been on the boil for quite some time and Kiama Council is really hoping to get this going,” he said.
“The community has been the driving force with this.”
Member for Gilmore Ann Sudmalis joined Senator Nash to deliver the funding.
“This community as a whole will be really really happy, plus all the visitors that are going to come and explore these amazing heritage items in a much better display facility,” she said.
“I think you can all be very proud of what you have here because it’s quite remarkable for a small village museum.”
