Kiama-Jamberoo RSL Sub-Branch president Lindsay ‘Mongo’ Delamont said it was important young people understood the importance of Anzac Day.
“Fundamentally it is a day to pay homage to veterans and those who gave their lives,” he said.
“I think it’s very important for young people to know about and understand that their freedom required sacrifice in the past.”
Mr Delamont said there would be a special appearance at this year’s services.
“The Light Horse troop will take part in the Kiama march and at the Jamberoo service, and a lone horseman will also be present at the Kiama dawn service.”
Kiama council and the Returned and Services League (RSL) have announced the service times and locations to mark Anzac Day on April 25.
Mayor Mark Honey said the range of services and marches throughout the municipality meant everyone had the opportunity to take part in the tradition.
“Anzac Day is about acknowledging the tremendous sacrifice made by Australian men and women of our armed services,” Cr Honey said.
“I thank the Kiama-Jamberoo and Gerringong sub-branches of the RSL for again providing us with the chance to remember those who died serving our country, and honour those veterans still with us.”
The Jamberoo march from Reid Park is scheduled for Saturday, April 22 at 10.30am, up Allowrie Street to the Jamberoo School of Arts for a service.
Kiama’s dawn service will take place at Blowhole Point from 5am on April 25 and march from the old council chambers at 10.30am, up Terralong Street for service at Memorial Arch. Kiama Bowling Club has a service at 12.15pm.
Gerringong dawn service is at the eastern end of Belinda Street at 6am with a service at Gerringong Bowling Club at 11am.
The Gerroa service is at Gerroa Boat Fishermans’ Club at 7.30am.
All veterans and other participants in marches are asked to arrive early so the parade marshall can assign march locations.
The RSL also asked that medals be worn, with those wearing relatives’ medals to wear them over the right hand side of the chest.
