Last Tuesday, staff and students from five creative arts industry schools shot their Val Morgan Cinema commercial for 2014, titled Follow Your Creative Passion, in Kiama.
The five schools - four tertiary and one secondary/extra-curricular - worked collaboratively on the project.
They included JMC Academy, Actors College of Theatre and Television, International Film School Sydney, The Drama Studio (Illawarra Performing Arts Centre), and the Australasian College of Hair Design and Beauty.
About 90 cast members and 18 crew visited the grounds of a farming property at Spring Creek Retreat to film the 40-second commercial.
These included creative graduates, lecturers, students, prospective students and Illawarra students fulfilling the roles of filmmakers, cinematographers, make-up artists, scriptwriters, actors and extras.
Filmmaker Kim Ramsay said Kiama was an obvious choice of location.
Spring Creek Retreat and its surrounds were chosen after two days of scouting.
"We wanted something with green, rolling hills like you were in a classic scene from Braveheart," she said.
"This region was my gut instinct, as it has this type of landscape."
Ms Ramsay said the advertisement featured six "creative tribes", each colour representing a different school at JMC.
"We wanted to make something bold, colourful and loud," she said.
"Hopefully it will grab people's attention."
JMC Academy is a leading creative industries institution, offering degrees and diplomas in music, audio engineering, film and television production, entertainment business management, 3D animation and game design.
The students' commercial will air nationally from April 17 in Hoyts and Event cinemas.
